What is a Puffin Felted Alpaca Sculpture?
Puffin Felted Alpaca Sculpture. Our collection of Aves is just a drop in the plentiful bucket of the class with most living species. The Aves Collection range in size from the tiny Hummingbird to the massive ostrich and are the last descendants of the extinct dinosaurs. Characterized by their feathers, toothless beaks, and egg laying young, we try to capture these spectacular creatures in alpaca fiber.
Each figure seeks to capture the true essence of its species with special attention to shape, markings, and color. What Is Alpaca Fiber?
Alpaca was once considered a gift from the gods and the most important relic of the history of the Incas. Alpacas are camelids since they share genetic material with camels. However, they are one of the four native species native species to South America.
There are two distinct breeds of these four-legged animals: the Huacaya alpaca and the Suri alpaca. The types of fiber derived from each of these types of alpacas are equally prized for different reasons. Fiber derived from alpacas can be either heavy or light depending on how it is spun, which means that it is ideal for a number of different kinds of products. Compared to sheep’s wool, alpaca fiber is considerably softer, and it is also more durable.
About Needle Felting?
Needle felting is a dry felting method generally using wool with its barbs that felt quickly and easily. We use alpaca for a softer and more artistic effect. This art form is quick, easy, inexpensive, requires very few tools, and takes up very little space.
You can needle felt when you have just a few spare moments or for days at a time. We at Lanart offer both the Lemur Wild Life Alpaca Fiber Sculpture as a finished product and needle felting kits. Please call us at 877-alpacas or click here for more info.
